So this news article came about and it’s not cute to read. Apparently, the Estonian tourism board wants to target Kuwaiti tourists. But not all of them, only the “superrich.” First, the word has no space in between it. Second, they seem to be have a skewed understanding of Kuwait. Third, it’s just a mess. Check out these statements made:
– “Põld said that for Kuwaitis, Estonia is very different and exotic, especially during wintertime.”
No, sweetie. I have been there twice and I know others who have. I like it, but this release is making me think twice.
– “Tarmo Mutso, head of the tourism development department of Enterprise Estonia, said that Kuwaitis may be accustomed to riches, but Estonia can offer them a different kind of wealth – pure nature, wildlife, picking berries, snow and four seasons.”
I’m not going to even start with this one.
– And the final paragraph; “The population of Kuwait is 3.5 million and the country’s surface area is 17,820 square kilometres. Kuwait is among the world’s five richest countries where average salary is equal to 3,300 euros.”
Yes, so basically that’s what they are after. Most tourism boards are after that, but they are not that rudely blunt.
