Travel Eats: Bukhara, ITC Maurya Hotel, New Delhi, India

Upon our announcement that we are visiting New Delhi for a few days, everyone on our social media accounts was telling us to visit Bukhara – and Indian cuisines restaurant in the middle of the city. It is situated in the always-busy ITC Maurya Hotel, which is a plus.

Although we were excited for the food, we did find it to be a bit overrated and, dare I say, very touristy. The place had a very straight forward menu, the highlights of which are the Dal Bukhara, which was just OK,  and the Sikandari Raan, the lamb dish that everyone fawns over (It is the highlight dish, though). Well, the onion salad (Yes, a plate of cut-up onions with herbs sprinkled all over them) was nice but it ruined our night out later. Oh, and the mixed drinks or shooters need a lot of improvement.

We have to say the name threw us off a little as we thought it was a Nepalese restaurant at first, but them we realized that it is Indian food for tourist. Some dishes had not enough spice in them, which is a very hard thing to find in India. Unfortunately, I live for spiciness.

The decor is nothing to write home about. Nestled in the middle of one of the busiest hotels in India, Bukhara is pretty crowded and reservations are hard to get. Make sure your hotel concierge calls ahead of time, that’s the only one you’ll get some kind of priority. The interior looks like a brick house with standard Italian restaurant walls. The service was a little lagging. Other than having to eat with your hands, there’s not much characteristically Delhi there. Oh, the the bib takes the cake.
